We got Weather!!!!

Living in So Cal means that while you have nice weather all year round, it's pretty much THE SAME WEATHER all the time. It gets hotter, and cooler, but otherwise, yeah. Not a lot of change. Especially since we've been in this drought forever, so we don't usually even get rain.I know lots of you got free snow this year, but where we live, ya gotta pay for it! It was a fun event put on by the local High School and since it was the first time my boys had gotten to play in snow, it was worth it!!! We were able to meet some of the students and staff that work with the special needs kids that our oldest will be attending with next year. The boys loved throwing (illegal) snowballs, and their Dad got into the act as well....This is him "massaging" the snow in the back of our boy's shirt..... (The snowballs were illegal because you weren't allowed to throw them, not that they were putting rocks into them or anything.... When we were ready to get home my youngest was surprised that his hands suddenly hurt from the cold, he hadn't wanted to wear his gloves, had tossed them to me, and I guess they'd gone numb from the cold. Thawing out was a learning experience for him!Our other batch of weather was rain - and lots of it! At one point during the rainstorm in January they were expecting a Tornado to touch down. It went to nearby cities, but it didn't hit us fortunately. I was out at the grocery store when I heard it was coming so I went and picked the boys up from school and went home. It was raining crazy, crazy, crazy hard, the streets were badly flooding and it was really hard to see. We got 1 inch of rain in 30 min that Tuesday according to the newspaper, but I know it felt like a whole lot more! I was concerned that over the next hour or 2 when they would have gotten out normally I wouldn't have been able to maneuver the streets without oars so I wanted to pick them up while I still could. The water was up over the curbs on both sides of the streets, and in places where the streets dipped it was quite deep. At one point I went into a dip and the water splashed up and went up over the front of my van and I was scared that I had gone to deep. Fortunately we were blessed and were able to keep going. When I got home my jeans were wet up to my knees from places I'd had to walk while the schools were in "lock down" while I was getting the boys. For those of you that know me, here's a way to explain how scary it was to drive that day - I couldn't get my camera out and shoot pictures as I drove because it was so hard to maneuver. THAT should tell you a lot. *grin* Anyway, it rained on and off for a week or so, and whenever I could I had the boys go out and play in it. The photos are from later in the week when it was raining hard, but no where near what it had been a few days before. We got over 5 inches in 3 days and for the most part, we loooooved it!
